Made in Tessingiu: A beautiful exhibition in the heart of Sardinia

I am 100% Sardinian, with a strong accent and tipical features: height, cheekbones, complexion and a strong personality. This is a blessing and a curse :-) I left this beautiful island more then 20 years ago (one of the thousands migrants to the poor South of Italy to the richest North), and I had the chance to come back a couple of years ago, a little bit uncertain about my future and where my decisions at that time would lead me.
Beside the well known Caribeean beaches (and yachts) filled with VIPs, this place is also famous for the food, the wild nature and the handicraft. Now a new generations of Sardinian artists took those ancients techniques to make outstanding artworks, both contemporary and traditional. And a little far off the touristic paths in a little town called Samugheo there's a museum "Murats" where there's a current exhibition dedicated to the Sardinian handicraft. Here some shots of it:

In the first room, wood carving mainly on furnitures and statues.
This bridal dress stole my heart for this uniqueness, and I cannot help to compare it with the traditional Sardinian bridal dress. (Here and here some shots of the most famous and richest one)
The traditional silver buttons mixed with coral.
I bottoni del costume tradizionale in filigrana d'argento accostati al corallo:
I was able to trace out the artists behind these gorgeous espadrillas, they made such gorgeous textiles as well: Labplatdd di Barbara Pala and Antonella Tedde.
DO you think I fell in love with evey single piece? I did! And I missed to have decent photos of the jewels and ceramics, too bad.
The building itself is truly lovely.

Beside the museum there's also another large exhibition called 'Made in Tessingiu' where you can actually buy the artworks and support the artists. It's been held in a former school, and the staff has been really kind and patient.

What a great post Gio, it's lovely to see traditional handicrafts and the motifs used. The bridal dress is superb I agree and also the petal pattern. We lost a friend a few years ago that we knew for over twenty years and he was from Sarsinia, he also had the height and the cheekbones thing, we miss him and his personality. That's such a gorgeous building to exhibit in too, love the ceiling beams. Big hug, Chris x

Gio, thank you so much for sharing this post about yourself and your culture! That wedding dress is gorgeous and I would wear that just for fun in the summer! The traditional wedding dresses are so elaborate- does everyone wear the same look?Or do they differ a bit? And did you ever wear one like that? ")

I love learning of other's cultures and lifestyles- so happy for this internet!!
hugs,Jackie xx
